VOLUNTEERS who cleared drugs paraphernalia from a Keighley graveyard been praised by the town’s MP.

Kris Hopkins thanked the townspeople who went along to the Keighley Shared Church graveyard in support of his anti-drug dealing campaign.

The team found a large amount of items including hypodermic needles during the event, also part of the National Big Clean Up weekend.

They were supported by Liz Horn, a Bradford Council ward officer.

Mr Hopkins (pictured with the with Rev Mike Cansdale) said the volunteers had cleared open spaces and returned the area to community use rather than for criminal activity.

He said: “The black sacks have mounted up and it is wonderful to see so many people prepared to make a difference.

“Although I recognise there is still more work to be done across Keighley Central ward, this is a very positive start.

“I know that the church wish to provide a safe haven and tranquil space free from fear and this is a very good step in the right direction.”
