GLUSBURN schoolboy Charlie Albone is doing wheely well.

The year two pupil at Glusburn Community Primary School came third in the under-sevens class at the National Championships for the British Schools Cycling Association.

Head Richard Hunt said the school was very proud of Charlie’s “remarkable” achievement at the Birmingham competition earlier this month. (March)

He said: “We are proud to have such talented sporting pupils in our school across a range of sports.”

Mr Hunt said that from the age of for Charlie had attended Bronte Tykes, a dedicated children's club with skilled coaches.

He said: “Charlie could ride a bike at three. He regularly races cyclo cross in the summer and winter children's Yorkshire league.

“He’s ridden approximately 20 races this winter alone, getting onto the top-three podium regularly.

“He placed second behind his friend and club mate Eddie Thornton in the regional schools round before going on to finish third in the Nationals. Eddie was placed fifth.”
