A HISTORIC band saved from closure last month is giving a concert in its home town.

Silsden Town Band, whose roots date back to the 1840s, was under threat following the loss of several key players and its musical director.

But a new supremo, Gordon Eddison, took-up the baton.

Now the outfit is to perform its first concert under his leadership.

The event – at Silsden Town Hall on Saturday, April 1, 7.30pm – will also feature youth ensemble, Ingenioso Brass.

"It promises to be an enjoyable evening of both traditional and modern music," said a band spokesman.

Tickets will be available – priced £7, including refreshments – at the door.

Under-18s are admitted free.
