VOLUNTEERS joined district councillors and local police to distribute Crimestoppers leaflets in two parts of Keighley Central ward.

Liz Horn, area ward co-ordinator arranged three sessions for today (March 24) in Showfield and Lawkholme.

The team enjoyed some perfect weather in which to deliver the anti-drug message house to house.

This was organised as part of Keighley MP Kris Hopkins's Clean Up Our Town anti-drugs campaign.

Mr Hopkins said: “It is great to see all the activity that has stemmed from the launch in January.

"At the time I said we needed to have a community response to make a real difference and the challenge has been accepted.

"From schools, to churches from clean ups to information being distributed these activities will all contribute to raising awareness and hopefully making a significant and positive impact on Keighley.”

Central ward councillors Zafar Ali, Abid Hussain and Khadim Hussain, joined PC Ben Ashton and his team at Markazi Jamia Mosque in Emily Street and Ghosiyah Mosque in Cark Road to give out leaflets after Friday Prayers today.

Cllr Ali said: “This is an important campaign. We must stand united and rid the area of this criminal activity.

"I'd encourage everyone to report crime where they see it on the Crimestoppers number to help us eradicate the problem.

"If the community stands together on this we can make a real difference.”

Crimestoppers enables people to anonymously report offences using a freephone number. People can call 0800 555111, or report online at crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/give-information-online
