AN annual charity "Walk for Water" which pupils from Keighley took part in involved rather more water than students may have bargained for!
Pupils from Holy Family Catholic School carried out the trek from Leeds to Kirkstall Abbey amidst torrential rain.
The event was organised by CAFOD Leeds.
A spokesman for Holy Family School said: "It was pouring down that day, so folk on the route from Leeds to Kirkstall Abbey were treated to the sight of students from schools around the district carrying buckets of water on a sponsored walk amidst a monsoon-sized deluge.
"Twelve students from Holy Family's year 10 represented our school in solidarity with those who don't have access to clean water."
Clare Pullan, RE teacher at Holy Family and leader of the Keighley contingent, said: “The fundraising is really incidental, although the funds are badly needed.
"The walk is designed to help students think about those who literally have to 'Walk for water' and carry it, sometimes for miles, from the well.
"Families can have to spend half their waking hours trekking back and forth for water.”
The Keighley pupils taking part in the walk this year were: Victoria Hanson, Molly Nolan, Devon Moffit, Julia Talarek, Zain Tariq, Ehsan Riaz, James Hey, Joe Whitham, Nadia Iqbal, Casey Kitson, Naila Kauser and Jonathan Taylor.
