A PUPIL at a Keighley school has taken first place in his age group at a regional cycling contest.

Michael Strange, who is in year ten at Holy Family Catholic School, came first in the under 15s Yorkshire Regional Roller Championships, which were held at Pudsey.

The championship is a cycling competition consisting of times set across several heats, with the best times going forward for a total.

A Holy Family spokesman said: "Michael was representing our school as part of the British Schools Cycling Association, (BSCA) and he is now the Yorkshire BSCA Champion.

"The BSCA organise and administer competition cycling cross the UK, dividing the country into thirteen regions set by the Sports Council.

"The Regional Championships are an important part of the competitive cycling programme for this cycling discipline.

"Michael received a certificate and a medal for his efforts."

Patrick Moran, acting progress leader for year ten at Holy Family, said: “We are all very proud of the efforts and success of our future 'Tour de Yorkshire' contender!"
