KEIGHLEY riders were to the fore in the second event of the ACU British Ladies and Girls Championship series, which was hosted by the South Shropshire Motor Club on Sunday.

Silsden's Gabby Whitham was fifth in the adult class behind Chesterfield winner Jess Bown. World and national champion Emma Bristow missed the event as she was competing in the Jack Wood Trial S3 Parts championship at Sheffield.

Ladies Inter champion, Oakworth's Beth Dunning, was third in class and is just four points off the title leader.

The future is bright for Denholme's Olivia Brooksbank, who heads the Class B age group championship following another victory. Her winning margin in the first event was a staggering 46 penalties.

Bradford club member Lucy Ayrton was sixth while Olivia's sister Summer was fourth in the youngest class and is also ranked in that position.

There was a postscript to the report on the Ilkley Grand National Trial story last week thanks to the vigilance of Ilkley Motor Club historian Janet Kitching.

Janet kindly pointed out that Nathan Wrigglesworth had already equalled Grassington's Glen Scholey's six-time winning run and bettered it last week with his success. The Glusburn builder now has seven Ilkley Grand National victories under his belt.

News from the Bradford-based Airedale & Pennine Motor Club is that entries are now rolling in for the annual Yorkshire Dales Classic Trial on May 7.

This long distance car and motorcycle event centres on Pateley Bridge. The motorcycle classes cover from British made pre-1970 machines and three other solo classes of various capacities.

Spritely pensioner Celia Walton will be riding her 600cc sidecar outfit, and aiming to win, as she did last year.

Of special interest will be the class for trials machines, though the thought of 70 miles on a trials machine is a little daunting.

Diary Date, Saturday: Bradford & DMC Club Championship trial, Deepcliff Farm, Harden, 1pm.
