A NEW series of evening walks is being staged by South Craven Walking 4 Health.

It is the sixth year of the popular walks, which each normally last for about an-hour-and-a-half.

"Ideally they are for working people who are in sedentary jobs or want a break from the stresses of work," said voluntary walk leader, Stewart Anthony.

"We go to many of the villages in South Craven and follow some lesser-known paths.

"We'll again have some special walks, including the solstice one in mid-June followed by a pie and peas supper – and a mystery walk to finish the programme in August."

The first walk, on Wednesday, April 12, starts at St Peter's Church Hall, Cross Hills, at 6.30pm.

South Craven Walking 4 Health is among more than 400 schemes in England, supported by the Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Care, which organise regular short walks specifically aimed at people whose health would benefit from some physical activity.

All the walks are led by trained volunteers and cater for a range of abilities.
