ORIENTEERING is being introduced at Keighley woodland that has just been opened to the public.

Families are being invited to take part in the popular running sport at the privately-owned Hainworth Wood.

Greg Hoyle, who owns the wood above Spring Bank and Wesley Place, has been working with Leeds and Wharfedale orienteering club Airienteers.

He invited Airienteers junior development officer Simon Martland to produce a orienteering plan for historic Hainworth Wood.

Mr Martland said: “I was fascinated to discover the site was so close to Keighley, but felt so remote at the same time. The woods, steep slopes and path network around the site make a very varied orienteering area that will challenge anyone new to the sport.

“Adding the adventurous outdoor sport of orienteering to the range of activities available at the site will give visitors new challenges and experiences”

“My job is to promote orienteering to juniors and families in the area. I am also establishing a new schools league competition with a series of races beginning after Easter.”

Mr Hoyle is working with regeneration group Keighley Big Local to open up Hainworth Wood for activities like woodland management, dog walking and recreation.
