A GOLF tournament will be held this month to raise money to take Keighley people on a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Proceeds of the May 1 competition at the Branshaw Golf Club, Oakworth, will help towards the £8,000 cost of the annual trip.

The Keighley Massabielle Group has organised pilgrimages for the past six years, taking poorly people to the French shrine along with carers, doctors and nurses.

Students from holy Family School go along to volunteer in hospitals and hostels in Lourdes, caring for pilgrims by sharing stories, offering drinks and pushing wheelchairs.

The golf tournament is open to teams of four, and entry costs £80 per team. Email ianalba.oneill@gmail.com or call 07903 033741 for an entry form or further.

Individuals or companies wishing to sponsor a hole should call 07733 295248.

Lourdes has been a destination for people seeking a cure for their illnesses since a sick 14-year-old had a vision of the Virgin Mary in 1858.
