A SCULPTURE which will form the centrepiece of a new Memory Garden in Haworth Central Park will be unveiled this Sunday. (April 30)

The stainless steel artwork, created by local artist Craig Dyson, is called The Meet and has been designed to represent a wing – both angelic and bird like.

It was commissioned by the Friends of Haworth Park and made possible thanks to a grant from Haworth, Cross Roads & Stanbury Parish Council.

A Friends spokesman said: "The new sculpture stands over three metres tall and is designed so engraved padlocks can be fitted to its lower levels in memory of loved ones.

"In future years as the wing becomes full, it's planned for the padlocks to be removed and joined together to create smaller artworks within the garden, making space for future memories.

"The Memory Garden project is still a work in progress.

"Apprentice bricklayers from Bradford Council gave their time and expertise to build the entrance.

"Bradford Council's parks department planted hedging donated by the Friends, cleared trees and have begun landscaping the site.

"Earlier this year the first seats were donated and put in place and some 2,000 snowdrop bulbs were given and planted by the Friends."

The sculpture unveiling takes place at 3pm on Sunday, and will be conducted by parish council chairman Councillor Gary Swallow.
