A MAJOR undercover police investigation into drug dealing in Keighley has resulted in a total of 31 people being charged and brought before the courts.

West Yorkshire Police said its Operation Saucerlake, which trapped a string of drug dealers in the town, came about as a result of "community information and police intelligence."

A spokesman for the force said four of the 31 people charged are still awaiting trial, while the rest have been convicted.

Many of the offenders have been in court over the last three months, their appearances coinciding with the Clean Up Our Town campaign.

Most of them were caught out while trying to sell drugs to undercover police officers in Keighley during the Saucerlake sting.

So far, convicted drug dealers have included: Mohammed Javed, 31, of Bradford Road, Riddlesden, who was jailed for six years and six months for supply of class A drugs and possession of criminal property and Mariusz Wolkowicz, 39, of Staveley Grove, Ingrow, who was jailed for one year and one month for conspiracy to supply class B drugs.

Convicted to date as part of Operation Saucerlake, have been: Haider Mumtaz, 21, of Swallow Street, Keighley, who was jailed for four and a half years after pleading guilty to 22 drugs trafficking offences; Javed Hussain, 47, of Bankfield Walk, Keighley, who was jailed for five years and eight months after pleading guilty to supplying wraps of heroin; Waqas Ahmed, 22, of Spencer Street, Keighley, who was jailed for four years after admitting 21 offences; Zaffar Iqbal, 47, of Mornington Street, Keighley, who was jailed for four years after admitting 12 offences; Saqib Hussain, 23, of Barlow Street, Keighley, who admitted three offences and was jailed for three years and Sohail Sadique, 22, of Belgrave Road, Keighley, who admitted ten offences and was jailed for three years.

The same operation has also snared Akash Hussain, 24, of Surrey Street, Keighley, who was locked up for five years and eight months for four offences of selling heroin and crack cocaine; Kaddar Hussain, 30, of Owl Street, Keighley, who was locked up for 32 months after admitting two offences of supplying Class A drugs, Husnain Sardar, 22, of Carder Close, Nelson, who was locked up for 32 months after pleading guilty to a single offence of supplying crack cocaine; Mohammed Saddique, 25, of Belgrave Road, Keighley, who was jailed for 27 months after admitting four offences of supplying heroin and crack cocaine; Hamza Ali, 21, of Skipton Road, Keighley, who was jailed for four and a half years for a series of drugs offences including supplying Class A drugs; Mohammed Yousaf, 44, of no fixed abode, who was jailed for 27 months after he was caught selling heroin and crack cocaine in Keighley 11 times in a month and Arfan Ali Hussain, 28, of Midland Street, Skipton, who was given a suspended two-year jail term and ordered to complete a nine-month drug rehabilitation programme after he was caught selling wraps of heroin and crack cocaine.
