A PAIR of friends from Keighley raised more than £2,200 for people with prostate cancer by taking part in the London Marathon.

David Williams, 37, who works as a police officer and Utley-resident Emma Firth-Rymer, 40, who is a primary school teacher, ran together and finished in a time of five hours 26 minutes.

Mr Williams, who lives in Riddlesden said: "We were by no means quick but we've now raised at least £2,240 for Prostate Cancer UK.

"It was my first ever run and I've lost three stone since January and overcome a knee ligament injury during training.

"This was Emma's fourth marathon but she had to overcome two broken toes which she also suffered during our training.

"The atmosphere in London was fantastic. There wasn't a single place where we didn't have people cheering us on, which really lifted us.

"There were thousands of volunteers dishing out bottles of water and Lucozade."

Mr Williams said he and Emma will be boosting their fundraising total even further on Saturday May 20, during the Haworth 1940s Weekend.

From 11am they will be staging an event in the grounds of Haworth Primary School, which will feature a cake bake sale, refreshments, tombola, a silent auction to win a signed Leeds Rhinos shirt, a lucky dip and a raffle.

People can support the pair by going to "Dave and Emma's London marathon 2017" on the Just Giving website and donating.
