AN initiative used to help prevent child sexual exploitation in Keighley and across Bradford district has won recognition.

Real Safeguarding Stories earned an accolade in the prestigious Public Services People Managers Association (PPMA) Awards.

Bradford Council and Collingwood Learning Solutions Ltd took the 'most effective partnership' prize for their collaborative work on the project.

As part of Real Safeguarding Stories, a series of videos was produced to train and educate people on issues including CSE and domestic abuse.

The initiative began in 2015 with three powerful testimonies, delivered by actors, from abuse survivors. There is now a bank of more than 20 video monologues.

It has been used for training with taxi drivers, council staff, colleges and some children's residential homes to help raise awareness of CSE.

And other local authorities have also made use of the videos to train staff.

Christopher Farquhar, member development manager with Bradford Council, said: "It's an amazing honour to receive this award along with Collingwood Learning Solutions.

"It has been a fantastic collaboration which has a really serious purpose.

"It shows we are doing innovative work in Bradford to raise awareness of domestic abuse and child sexual exploitation. The safeguarding stories are a great resource that are free for anyone to use."

In the same awards scheme, Sue Dunkley – the council's director of human resources – was also honoured.

She received the public sector HR director of the year award.
