ROSS Daly may have started on the bench in the Evo-Stik League play-off final but he still got 90 minutes on the pitch as he helped Farsley Celtic gain promotion to the Premier Division.

The Celts beat neighbours Ossett Town 4-2 after extra time in a tense battle at Throstle Nest. Farsley had ended the regular season as runners-up, while Town finished 12 points behind them in fourth place.

Even before the game, Daly said: "Whatever happens, it will have been a very successful season for us and if we turn up on Saturday we can win and it will be a big reward for everyone at the club."

Midfielder Daly was among the substitutes, still battling his way back from a hamstring injury, but he was called upon in the 43rd minute after Peter Davidson limped off.

With three minutes added to the first half, a minimum of seven – that turned into eight at the end of normal time – and two minutes at the end of the second extra period, it meant that Daly had his first full 90 minutes in a while as the long season took its toll on the Farsley squad.

The play-off final was the Celts' 62nd game of the campaign and Daly reflected: "The objective at the start was promotion and we've done that and so much more.

"Ossett beat us at home in the last but one game of the season and obviously everyone was disappointed because that took it out of our own hands.

"But we went to Kendal Town on the last day and did what we could, then we won the play off semi-final just three days later.

"We scored nine goals in those two games and kept two clean sheets, so confidence was high going into Saturday. But then it always was throughout the season.

"We had good runs in all of the cup competitions – we went all the way in the West Riding County Cup.

"We did well in the League Cup, the FA Cup and the FA Trophy and the games against Bishop Auckland, Tamworth and Southport were good experiences for our squad.

"It's been a long season but a very enjoyable one."
