SWING Into Spring was a name of a family fun day held at the Sue Belcher Centre in Bracken Bank.

Free activities included a barbecue, ducklings, lambs, ferret racing, storytime, face-painting, a bouncy castle and a fire pit.

There were art and crafts for pre-school children, a chance to build a planter with local gardener Steve Thorpe, and lessons in growing beans.

The event, organised by Bracken Bank and District Community Association and Eccleshill Adventure Playground, also included a bouncy castle, raffle, tombola, rugby training and market stalls.

Association vice-chairman Neil Harris said: "The spring event was an outstanding success. It was fantastic to have so many members of this great community of all ages come and enjoy a fun afternoon together.”

Community development worker Pip Gibson said the “fabulous” event attracted at least 600 people from all over Keighley.

She said: “Thanks go out to the trusty teams of volunteers, my management committee, the people of Bracken Bank, the community groups, businesses, service providers and Keighley Town Council.

“Their donations of time, effort, resources and commitment made for a well-organised and fun-filled day for all the family.”

Proceeds will support the Sue Belcher Centre’s costs. The community association, which runs the centre, is planning a similar event during the summer.

Several Keighley companies donated raffle prizes, including B&M, Morrisons, Embsay Steam Railway, Radio Leeds, CL Herd Butchers, Oakworth Co-op, Bradford City FC, One In A Million, Kitcheman Butchers, Roy Dykes Butchers, Miller Books, Scott's Card Stall, Shamire Fashions, Ropers and Craft Tea Corner.

The event was also supported by Cabbage Club Catering, BBDCA, EAP, Worth Village ARLFC, One In A Million, Incommunities, Children's Centre, Steve Thorpe, Bradford Libraries and Worth Valley Ferret Welfare.

Community groups that were involved included Craft Tea Corner, Lil Buddies, Time Out Coffee Stop and the Cabbage Club.
