A CHARITY ultra-walking challenge has netted more than £1,000 for a Keighley singing group for people with dementia.

Chris Issott braved multiple blisters to complete 52 kilometres in one day – mostly on a treadmill – in aid of the Singing Teapot group.

Mr Issott, an accountant from Oakworth, is a new member of the Rotary Club of Keighley, an organisation which has been supporting the singers since they began performing in 2014.

His original plan was to raise about £300 from his walk, but thanks to plenty of generous donors and sponsors he has soared beyond his target and reached £935.

Mr Issott said: “Once the Gift Aid is added it will be well over £1,000 and I couldn’t be more delighted.”

Maggie Marsden, spokesman for the Singing Teapot, said: “Chris’s support of our group has been fantastic since we began and we are so grateful to him for raising this money.

"It will pay the running costs for over two years, and also enable us to buy some new musical instruments and other equipment for the group.”

Mr Issott's fundraising feat saw him walk 62,500 steps and burn up over 9,000 calories.

He voiced his thanks to everyone who had supported him, particularly members of Rotary Club of Keighley, all donors and the team at Sports Direct Fitness.

The Singing Teapot meets on the first Friday of every month at the Keighley Healthy Living Centre, in Scott Street, between 1.30am and 3pm.
