A HISTORIC remnant of Yorkshire's industrial transport history will return to Silsden this weekend.

The Leeds and Liverpool Canal short boat Kennet will be open to the public this Sunday (May 21) from 11am till 4pm.

The vessel will be in her floating museum configuration, and will be moored at the town's old coal wharf.

During this time people will be able to come aboard, meet the Kennet volunteers and learn about the history of the boat and the canal.

A spokesman for the organisers of the visit said: "Seven months after Kennet moored overnight in Silsden, as she headed towards Liverpool on her epic journey traversing the full length of the Leeds-Liverpool canal, Silsden is delighted to welcome this iconic vessel back to the town.

"We are grateful to the Kennet volunteers for bringing her to Silsden, and to the landowners who are allowing access to the wharf so the public can visit the boat."
