ROADS in Keighley, Silsden and Haworth will be subject to a swathe of new parking restrictions if plans submitted by Bradford Council are approved.

The council is consulting on proposals for Bar Lane, Kensington Street and Goulbourne Street in Keighley, Bradley Road, Belton Road and Keighley Road in Silsden and Rawdon Road and Mytholmes Lane in Haworth.

A proposed order for Bar Lane would introduce a limited 30-minute waiting time for part of this road for between 7am and 9pm outside the post office.

The report outlining this explains: "This is considered necessary to improve access and parking for both the Post Office and the local butchers for their customers and delivery or collection vehicles."

Riddlesden & Stockbridge ward town councillor Andrea Walker said she had no objections to what she thought would be a useful measure for customers of the post office and the nearby butchers.

At the junction of Kensington Street and Goulbourne Street, in Knowle Park, the council wants to impose restrictions of No waiting at any time to improve visibility for motorists.

In Silsden, a traffic order is being advertised recommending No waiting at any time on two lengths of Bradley Road and No waiting at any time on two lengths of Belton Road and four lengths of Keighley Road.

These intended restrictions for Bradley Road relate to its junction with Skipton Road.

The planned changes at Belton Road and Keighley Road would affect the junction of these roads and a stretch of the north-bound lane of Keighley Road as it passes the sports fields.

Craven Ward Councillor Adrian Naylor said he welcomed the traffic orders.

"These have been asked for, for some considerable amount of time," he added.

"The yellow lines meant for Bradley Road and Skipton Road are to stop cars parking at that junction in order to improve visibility and safety.

"But it needs enforcement. You can have as many yellow lines as you like, but it won't make a difference unless you have someone there to issue parking tickets."

In Haworth, the council has proposed a change to No waiting at any time restrictions for Mytholmes Lane near the junction with Ebor Lane.

If approved, the exemption to this no waiting rule would be altered from the current slot of 9.30am to 11.30am on Sundays to 10am to noon on Sundays.

This would provide continued parking for visitors attending the amended Sunday Mass time at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Other plans for Haworth would introduce a disabled persons parking bay in Rawdon Road, as well as a No waiting at any time order for a short length of the same road.

The disabled space would be outside Haworth Primary School, and would operate from 8am to 4pm Monday to Friday between September 1 and July 31, with a maximum stay of 30 minutes allowed for each vehicle.

Worth Valley ward councillor Rebecca Poulsen said: "This was previously a layby for buses, and would bring back into use a space which is coned off at the moment.

"Haworth Primary is now a 'Designated Special Provision' unit, meaning it caters for pupils with quite severe autism, some of who are not good with road safety. They need somewhere safe where they can be picked up and dropped off."
