A LOCAL school has staged its own official Race for Life event for a third successive year.

Children and their families from Sutton Community Primary School held the event for Cancer Research UK in Sutton Park on Friday May 12.

Though the weather threatened rain no one gave up, as parents and children ran the five kilometre race, which comprised a total of nine laps of the park.

Kirsty Ibbotson, who organised the charity run, paid tribute to the efforts of everyone who took part.

"I would like to thank everyone for the support they gave us at our Race for Life event," she said.

"It was brilliant to see so many people there. Their efforts and support was overwhelming and greatly appreciated.

"I am sure they will agree that a fabulous afternoon was had by all, while we raised money and awareness for a charity that is close to many of our hearts.

"Feet were heavy but hearts were light as everyone crossed the finishing line, all agreeing that this was our best race yet!"
