ONE of the country's biggest football festivals – involving schools from across the district – is taking place in Keighley.

Around 120 teams of boys and girls – ranging in age from eight to 14 – are participating in the annual event, at Marley Activities and Coaching Centre.

The three-day Bradford District Schools 5v5 Football Festival, which this year celebrates its 20th anniversary, involves nearly 1,000 youngsters.

Five-a-side matches are being held after school each day.

The event - organised by Bradford Council's sport and culture service, with support from Square Apple Cafe – is taking place during a big footballing week for the district.

Bradford City is in action at Wembley, in the League One play-off final, on Saturday.

Phil Barker, the council's assistant director of sport and culture, said: "Primary and secondary school pupils from all over the district are taking part in the festival.

"It is important that young people are provided with enjoyable opportunities to participate in physical activity and sport.

"It is a big sporting week and I hope everyone at the festival takes inspiration from the Bantams."

The tournament, which ends today, is split into six age groups and the winners and runners-up in each receive a leather football and commemorative T-shirt respectively.

All participants are awarded attendance certificates.
