KEIGHLEY'S Armed Forces Association (KAFA) has received a donation from the town's Freemasons lodge.

Members of Royal Yorkshire Lodge 265, which is based in Cooke Street near Town Hall Square, presented a cheque for £300 to KAFA's chairman Luke Davison earlier this month.

The money will go towards buying a new gazebo for the association, for use whenever it wants a presence at outdoor events.

Anthony Edgar, 2017 worshipful master of the masons lodge, said: "We gave £300 because it's the tri-centenary of Freemasonry in England this year.

"We raise this money ourselves throughout the year through subscriptions and via raffles and meals. And we already have quite close ties with the armed forces, as a lot of our members are ex-military.

"We've lent KAFA our own gazebo before, but they were wanting to get their own, which would have their logo on it, so we've given them this money towards it. I think the total cost is about £600."

Mr Edgar, who has been a member of the lodge for 12 years and lives in Steeton, added that he and his colleagues were also looking to boost the profile of their organisation and attract new members.

He said: "We have a website, a meal once a month and an open day when people will be able to ask us questions.

"We are more accessible now and take in people from all backgrounds that have an interest in the social aspect of our activities and in helping society through charity."

KAFA's 2017 Armed Forces Day is on June 18 at Marley Playing Fields, with the opening ceremony starting at 11am.

This year's event will include a flypast by a Dakota aircraft, a demonstration by a warhorse re-enactment team, a funfair, archery, food and drink stalls and a Punch and Judy show.
