PLANS for a Mexican-style takeaway in Haworth's Main Street were recommended for refusal by parish councillors.
Members of Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council considered the change of use application for 89 Main Street.
If approved by Bradford Council, this would alter the use class of the property from retail shop to cafe/takeaway.
Parish council chairman Gary Swallow said: "I don't think we could object to a cafe, but a takeaway isn't appropriate on a street where vehicle access is only meant to be for residents and deliveries."
Cllr Angel Kershaw noted: "I wouldn't be worried about a cafe, but what does worry me is the takeaway aspect.
"The road is very narrow at that point and there's barely space for two cars to pass."
The council agreed to register its own opposition to the application on the grounds that this spot is inappropriate for a takeaway.
A written statement accompanying the application points out: "Currently the shop is run down and has been for the last 20 years.
"I'd like to change it from a trinket shop to a small cafe, mainly a takeaway Mexican street food outlet.
"There'd be no change to the exterior, as it's a grade II listed building. And there would only be decorations inside with no change to any
structure."
