AIREDALE were left counting the cost of two short runs as they lost by one run at Bradford & Bingley III in an exciting Cowling Cup first-round match.

Playing on the club's main pitch, Connors Hall Brown (43no) helped the hosts to 107-6 in their 20 overs.

The Bradford Road visitors were going great guns in reply with Paul Feather (37) and Warren Coppack (33). Both fell with a few balls of each other but some hectic scampering between the wickets got the game to the last ball with two wanted to win, only for a batsman to hole out.

Airedale were left frustrated, having been pulled up for a short run on successive balls.

There was another nail-biting finish at Haworth where Wilsden went down by two wickets, with the winning runs coming off the last ball.

The Windy Grove side made 115-8 with Gareth Wright (31) and Ben Mitchell (26) being the main contributors as Neil Rollins (3-22) and Graham Aldred (3-34) impressed with the ball.

Cononley must have felt comfortable with their 136-7, with Nathan Parker (61no) and Peter Hatton (55) setting the platform as Dan Kernan took 4-15. However, in reply, Riddlesden romped home by seven wickets in the 11th over thanks to Akeel Rashid (51no) and Nasser Hussain (41no).

Haroon Ali (56) and Shaub Ashraf (55) put on 116 for the first wicket which saw Barrowford to a superb 180-4 when they tackled Oakworth. The Cure Hill side were restricted to 98-5 with James Lee (41) and Bilaal Khan (24no) being the main contributors.
