A BRILLIANT line-up of Groovy Happening favourites are promised as the Haworth music night returns on Saturday.

Box Jellys claim to be officially the laziest band in Yorkshire, with influences such as lethargy, tiredness and sitting.

They say: “With a strict adherence to minimal rehearsal and generally unkempt appearance our usual gig is sure to astound, confound and bemuse.”

Groovy spokesman, Ann Wiles, said that, however lazy they were, it is good to have the “talented supporters of Groovy Happening” back in the house.

General James Blakk are also playing the Groovy Happening.

Ann said: “Regular visitors to Groovy Happening, they play a mix of covers by the likes of Talking Heads, Echo And the Bunnymen and the Pretenders.

“They have been quite busy this year, both headlining their own shows plus supporting some well-known touring bands.

“We are pleased to welcome back Liam Newton, who performed at the first Groovy in 2012 and many times since. He will be playing his own compositions and covering songs from the likes of the great Bob Dylan.”

Also returning is Blind Danny Lemon, whose debut performance last year went down well with regulars.

Danny said: “I was born and raised in the backwoods of Horsforth and when I was young, I couldn’t get enough of Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters and John Lee Hooker.

“I bought my first harmonica aged 16 because it was cheaper and easier to carry than a guitar. Many years later, when I got round to buying a guitar, the Bluebrass sound was born – country blues with a Yorkshire twist.

“Now, I enjoy strumming and a-hollering my songs all over this fine land, singing about everything from whiskey, to women, to gambling.”

Groovy Happening is at the Parkside Social Club in Butt Lane, Haworth, at 7.30pm. Admission is £3, in aid of Manorlands, with a raffle and disco.
