THE daughter of an Oxenhope man who died of Myeloma cancer in 2015 completed a Pennines marathon in his memory to raise cash to fight this illness.

Helen Gilbert, whose father John Kitchen died in 2015 aged 66, finished the gruelling route yesterday, (May 28) setting out from and finishing at her parent' home in Oxenhope.

Including Gift Aid cash she has so far raised about £3,000 for the charity Myeloma UK.

Mrs Gilbert, 36, who now lives in Kent and works as a graphic designer, said: "It took me five hours 17 minutes to finish, not the fastest time, but with rough ground, 3,850 feet of elevation, stiles and closing gates, I'm still pretty happy with that!

"Even though it was very tough, it was such a good day. I hadn't wanted it to be too hot or too rainy, but I couldn't have asked for better weather.

"I had so much support from people along the way and have people have been so generous."

She said she had received donations from people she did not even know, adding that her husband Richard secretly had a trophy made specially for her for when she finished.

People can still support her online by going to the main virginmoneygiving.com page, typing Helen Gilbert into the "Find a friend" donation box, then clicking on the "Daddy Long Legs" icon.
