FAMILY runs will take place every month during the summer and autumn in Lund Park.

The activities are being organised by volunteers who hope eventually to run a weekly Junior Parkrun at the Keighley park.

The team has already helped several pilot events at Lund Park for their own family members and the first public family run this month.

Group spokesman Jo Horrox said: “The run went really well and we had 11 children taking part of all ages, and many new faces.

“The Lund Park Community Group has agreed to pay the insurance to enable the family runs to take place from July to December.

“We hope to launch the Junior Parkrun properly with enough volunteers once we reach December. I have changed the name to family run because we can’t officially call it Parkrun yet.”

The family runs will be held at the Lund Park entrance in mouth is Road on July 16, September 3, October 1, November 5 and December 3, all at 9am.

Visit parkrun.org.uk to register runners. The runs are open to children aged four to 14, and family members that want to join in.

Official Parkruns are held at same time every week at hundreds of locations across the UK, as part of a worldwide movement.

In Keighley there have been three pilot Junior Parkruns for the families of volunteers, but this is the first time one has been open to all youngsters aged four to 14.

The route in Keighley is 2km, twice round Lund Park. The route is marked out and volunteers are on duty to ensure no child is out of sight at any time.”
