KILDWICK’S jazz queen Clare Teal will be back in the Yorkshire Dales for a concert at Grassington Festival.

The multi award-winning singer and Radio Two presenter can be seen with her 17-piece Hollywood Orchestra led by Guy Barker on June 29.

The show at the Festival in the Field marquee is entitled The Ella Fitzgerald Legacy.

The orchestra will be conducted by world-class trumpeter, composer and arranger Guy Barker.

This year is the centenary of Ella Fitzgerald, the original “first lady of song”, and Clare will explore the many facets of Ella Fitzgerald as well as Nina Simone, Nancy Wilson and Peggy Lee.

She will sing timeless classics penned by the legendary musical storytellers of the last 100 years, from giants of the Great American and British Songbooks through to the work of more contemporary writers crafting the standards of today.

The audience will also hear some of Clare’s own original compositions.

With music from the likes of Cole Porter, Billy Strayhorn, Rodgers and Hammerstein, Harold Arlen and Harry Warren, songs include From This Moment On, Mack The Knife, Let’s Do It Let’s Fall In Love, Mr Paganini, Secret Love, Stormy Weather, The Folks Who Live On The Hill and Feeling Good.

A spokesman said: “As the UK’s Queen of Swing, Clare Teal’s concerts are renowned across the country for their energetic exuberance, and The Ella Fitzgerald Legacy promises an evening of inspired music and unbridled entertainment, performed by the very best.”
