A CARE trust which runs a mental health centre at Airedale Hospital is honouring the work of its volunteers and staff.

Bradford District Care NHS Foundation Trust is staging its You're a Star Awards.

Winners in the five award categories will be announced at a glittering ceremony at the Mercure Bradford Bankfield Hotel, Bingley, on July 7.

Each will receive £1,000 – courtesy of event sponsor Sovereign Health Care – to support their ongoing work.

During the event, the finalists' work will be showcased through short films.

Trust chairman, Mike Smith, said: "The You're a Star Awards are a time to celebrate the work of outstanding individuals and teams over the last year.

"It is also an opportunity to pause and reflect on the excellent work carried out every day by many more unsung heroes across our organisation who really do go above and beyond the call of duty.

"Our final fifteen are all worthy winners.

"Their dedication, enthusiasm and skill is making a real difference to the health and wellbeing of the people of Bradford, Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven."

Finalists in the Working Together Award category include the Lynfest steering group, which organised a music and arts festival for people with mental health problems; Young Dynamos, a young people's research advisory group which has helped shape services for the younger generation, and the Carers Hub, which provides support for people caring for loved ones.

Contenders in the Patient Experience Award category include trust governor Nick Smith and Belinda Marks, who heads up the palliative care team.

The You and Your Care Award section includes Christine Cunliffe, an assistant clinical practitioner; Diane Hanson, a health care assistant in one of the trust's district nursing teams, and health visitor Dawn McCann.

In the Value for Money Award category, finalists include the human resources staff bank team, the children's services leadership team and the continence service.

And the Quality Award section includes the wellbeing@work team; Laura Gow, an advanced nurse practitioner with the intensive home treatment team, and Andrew Birkenshaw and Jodee Simpson, who support people with learning disabilities to have their health needs met.
