MORE volunteers are being sought for Long Lee Village Hall as it moves into a positive future.

The committee of the thriving community centre hope to attract new members at their annual general meeting on Wednesday, July 5.

Spokesman June Keeler said: “We need more volunteers to join the committee to help us make bigger decisions for the community space, broaden our ideas and possibilities for the future, and share the workload.”

The centre was recently given money from Bradford Council to help meet a significant increase in running costs.

June said afternoon tea parties had been replaced by a Knit and Natter group on the last Wednesday afternoon of each month.

She said: “Several private parties have been held at weekends for small children and are proving popular.

“Last year a meeting involving an Italian spiritual leader was held and another two are planned for mid-July this year.”

“The Friends of Parkwood hire the hall once a month and dates are already booked for the forthcoming year.

“We continue to forge links with Long Lee Primary School, and their choir performs once a year to the Knit and Natter club.”

The Village Hall also hosts a pre-school and after-school club called Abi-Mays, which runs every weekday and during school holidays.

A newly-formed toddler group called Mon-Stars runs on Monday mornings, while an Art and Craft Club meets on Tuesdays and Fridays afternoons.

Zumba is held every Monday evening and an adult tap club on Thursday evenings. Lego Club is held once a month on a Saturday morning, a gardening club runs monthly during summer.

June added: “The karate club has sadly been closed since the end of May for personal reasons.”

The annual general meeting will be at 7pm and is open to the public.
