A FORMER Keighley company chairman turned author is giving a talk at Bradford Literature Festival.
Gordon Black will speak about his acclaimed book, From Bags to Blenders.
The talk is in the small hall at the University of Bradford, Richmond Road, on Thursday, July 6, 7.30pm.
Mr Black – who chaired Peter Black Holdings for 30 years, until 2007 – will outline how the company grew from small roots into an organisation with annual sales of £300 million and employing 3,000 people, before it was sold to Chinese trading giant Li & Fung for £48m.
Black's was a major supplier of footwear, toiletries, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals to leading UK retailers.
He said: "One of the key tenets of my working life – and a crucial theme in my book – is that a good business should not be driven by greed, self-interest and exploitation, but by loyalty, co-operation and integrity.
"These latter qualities have been sadly lacking in too many high-profile companies recently."
Admission to the talk is £6, and Mr Black will be signing copies of his book.
From Bags To Blenders is published by Icon Books.
