SCOUTS, Cubs and Beavers will this week tackle the ‘Weeds of Westfell’ and spruce up a patch of Keighley green space.

Children from the 6th Keighley (Oakworth) and 1st Keighley (Fell Lane) Scout groups have joined up with the Friends of Westfell to plan the clearance of overgrown vegetation.

Local people are invited to join in, and should meet on Tuesday, June 27, at 6.30pm the Scout Hut in Fell Lane.

The land has been tidied in recent years by residents with help from community development worker Pip Gibson and other organisations.

Pip said help was needed to maintain the “natural beauty and accessibility.”

This week’s planned tasks included weeding, planting, spreading wood chippings along the well-used footpath, maintaining animal habitats, and putting up litter.

Yorkshire Housing has donated £100 for plants and refreshments. Local residents were invited to go along and provide wheelbarrows, gardening bags, hoes, gloves and other gardening tools.

Scouts from the two groups have been involved in environmental projects over the past year at Westfell, nearby Nashville, and the Cure Hill beauty spot in Oakworth.
