A MAJOR project which raises awareness amongst youngsters of everyday dangers is being staged again in Keighley.

Stay Safe will be held for a sixth time at Keighley College.

And this year the venture is catering for more than 570 pupils from primary schools across the district.

Numerous agencies – from British Transport Police and Northern Gas Networks to the fire service – are involved in the five-day initiative, which begins on Monday (July 3).

Topics covered will include road, fire and electricity safety.

The scheme has been expanded to include provision for special needs youngsters.

Dave Towers, of Keighley Work Safe, said: "Commitment from the agency partners has allowed this project to flourish.

"I am particularly excited by its extension to include children with special needs and Keighley College has been integral in the continuing success of the overall project with its offer to host the event."

Frankie Pearson – transition and engagement officer at the college – said the campus was delighted to be involved, adding: "Feedback has shown that schools find the college an attractive venue for a scheme of this nature and we look forward to working with the Stay Safe Project in future years."

Another Stay Safe event is scheduled to take place at Bradford Bulls in October.
