KEIGHLEY cheerleaders Team X-Treme and their teenage founder Siân Reid are both on a high.

The team’s Diamonds, Sparkles and Crystals groups came first, second and sixth while competing at the ICE Spring Thaw Out cheerleading competition in Sheffield.

And Siân has won a place on the Team England Pom team to represent her country in the World Championships in Orlando next year.

Siân’s delighted mother Vena said her daughter now had “a hell of a lot” of hard work and training ahead of while overseeing her young cheerleaders .

She added: “I am so proud of Siân, she works so hard and I can’t believe she will be representing England, such a massive achievement.”

Siân, who lives in Keighley, began cheerleading as a young teenager and with her teams had success in the European and World Championships. She was an Elite Cheerleader for the Rugby World Cup in 2013.

In 2015 Siân set up Team X-Treme as a small recreational ‘Pom’ dance school and it has since grown to a large All-Star competition cheerleading school. Siân and fellow coaches Maisie Marshall and Ciara Patchett now run several sessions a week at Team X-Treme.

Vena said: “All-Star Cheerleading is a very difficult ‘sport’ suitable for both genders and is far from the perceived stereotype.

“Siân has worked extremely hard to build Team X-Treme members into strong and capable athletes whom in less than a year and with no previous All-Star experience, have grown to such an accomplished status.

Vena said Siân had strong support from mums including Donna Westfall, Claire Ettenfield, Louise Fletcher, Victoria Smith and Danielle Emmott.

At the ICE contest, Team X-Treme’s 17-strong Team Diamonds came first out of 12 and were voted overall Grand Champions. The 14-strong Team Crystals came sixth in their category, and the five-strong Stunt Group Sparkles came second.

Vena said: “This is such an amazing achievement as most of the athletes have never performed in a cheerleading team before. It was hard work, dedication, sheer grit and determination by every team member, along with Siân’s vast experience and chorographical expertise.”

Team X-Treme is recruiting members for its cheerleading teams on August 13.
