THERE were two close finishes in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League's Cowling Cup quarter-finals.

Division 4B Cononley II defeated Division 4A Crossflatts II by five wickets off the penultimate ball, while the Embsay II v Foulridge II tie also went to the final over.

Bryan Freimanis (49) helped Ryshworth Park hosts Crossflatts set a total of 113 to beat as Rob Brooke took 3-21, but Herbie Starkey and Harry Parker both scored 33 to see the south Craven side into the semi-finals.

Embsay II, who have won the event 16 times, including sharing it in 2012 with Wilsden II, entertained Foulridge II and got home by eight wickets with five balls to spare.

The Noyna side made 126 as Adil Khan top scored with 31 and Jonny Coward took 4-31.

Coward (62no) then joined Brian Hodgson (38no) as the pair put on an undefeated 80 for the third wicket.

Haworth Road II, who are second in Division Two, encountered few problems in seeing off Chatburn in the Ribble Valley.

The Baildon Bottom side amassed 148-3 in their 20 overs, with Rob Greenwood (56) and Andrew Morley (31no) being in the runs.

The home side were then knocked over for a paltry 39 as Thomas Kaznowski took 4-10.

Bradford & Bingley III's trip to Glusburn II proved to very fruitful as they won by 25 runs.

The Wagon Lane side went first and made 125-9 on the back of Matthew Sharp’s 32 and Farhan Khalid's 31, with Alan Coney taking 3-20.

Coney (31) then top scored and Akram Javed made 23 as Shahbaz Ahmed took 3-13 in the reply of 100-6.

The semi-finals and the final will be played on Sunday, July 23 at Denholme.

The semi-final draw is: Haworth Road II v Cononley II, Embsay II v Bradford & Bingley III.
