FUNDING secured by South Craven School in 2016 is beginning to bear fruit, with work starting on a brand new building.

Last year the school gained funds from the Education Funding Agency to build a new classroom block.

This block is intended to replace three, old temporary buildings which were no longer fit for purpose.

The new development works began this spring, with the steel frame of the premises going up last month. (June) completion date is mid-November. Building is being done by the Huddersfield-based firm RSR Construction.

A spokesman for South Craven School said: "The steel frame has now been erected and the block work is currently being built.

"The cladding on the building is a high pressure laminate and will be a mixture of three different natural wood colours.

"South Craven is intending to use the same cladding on some of its other buildings where wooden cladding is currently in place.

"The new building will provide four classrooms for the school's History Faculty, as well as provide an office space and accessible toilets.

"The grounds around the building will be landscaped with shrubs, and will incorporate walling with seating for students."
