A NEGLECTED plant container in Haworth has been replaced with an attractive new planter following a team effort by a resident, the parish council and a Keighley firm.

Haworth man David Hutchinson had noticed that the old planter prominently located at the junction of Mytholmes Lane and Rawdon Road had fallen into a poor state of repair and had become an unsightly mess.

He approached Haworth, Cross Roads and Stanbury Parish Council with an offer to handcraft a suitable replacement and worked with Trevor Alderson of Keighley Timber to provide a large, brand new planter which is now in place.

The parish council arranged for the container to be planted up. A spokesman for the council said its members are "delighted" with the results of this joint project.

Council chairman Cllr Gary Swallow said: "David’s offer was a breath of fresh air for us and we were delighted to work with him.

"As the district council continues to reduce planting across the parish we are hoping that more local businesses will come forward to work with us, potentially sponsoring planters and flowerbeds of their own.

"On behalf of the parish council and the residents of Haworth, I'd like to publicly thank David and Trevor for their donation, which I'm sure will be enjoyed by locals and visitors to the village for years to come."
