A TRIP to Grange-over-Sands for Parkside School students was not for a sunbathing and swimming.

The A-level geography students took part in the residential visit to develop their coursework question and collect data for their chosen subject.

Teenagers from the Cullingworth school went to the North-West resort – on the edges of the Lake District – with students from Hipperholme Grammar School and Trinity Academy Halifax.

Parkside geography teacher Liam Radcliffe said the trip was an incredible success.

He added: “Not only did the students successfully collect their data, they also created friendships and working relationships with students from the other schools that will support them during their coursework write-up.”

Grange-over-Sands, which lies on Morecambe Bay, is a popular place for geography studies due to natural features such as its wide tidal range.

The River Kent used to flow past the town's mile-long promenade but its course migrated south, away from Grange.

The sands or mudflats with dangerous quicksands above the years become a grass meadow which is now grazed by small flocks of sheep.
