FLAMES kept the crowds happy as Keighley Fire Station held its first community fun day for several years.

Popular attractions at the Bradford Road station included a chip pan fire demonstration and a re-creation of a road traffic accident where firefighters cut a casualty free.

Watch Commander Mick Rhodes said the day was very successful in attracting the public and building community links, as well as raising £1,100 for the Fire Fighters Charity.

He said: “This was the first community day we’ve had for a number of years. It was a massive success and will probably become an annual event.

“In our road traffic collision demonstration we took the roof off a scrap car and released a casualty with a spinal board. People know what we do at accidents but they don’t usually see it up close and personal.”

The Haworth fire cadets served refreshments, and there was a performance by the West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service Band.

The fun day was organised by Watch Commander Fiona Hopper and Crew Commander Neal Andrews-Parry from White Watch, and Green Watch were on duty during the event.
