KEIGHLEY and District Volunteer Centre has received a £5,000 boost.

The cash has been donated by the Screwfix Foundation, which supports projects that maintain and improve properties for people in need.

Gary Hodgson, from the volunteer centre, thanked the foundation for its backing.

He added: "We work hard to make a difference in the community by providing many volunteering opportunities.

"This funding will go towards a project we are currently running – a DIY handy-person service which enables elderly and vulnerable people to maintain their independence within their own homes.

"We'd like to thank everyone who was involved in the fundraising."

Sam Crossley, the Screwfix Keighley store manager, said he was delighted a local charity had been awarded funding.

"Staff from across the business have held a variety of events to raise vital funds for the foundation," he said.

"It's fantastic to see the money we have raised being invested back into such a worthwhile community project."

The Screwfix Foundation welcomes funding applications from relevant projects.
