AN EASTBURN man’s 90th birthday was a real up and under.

Geoffrey Simmonite had a surprise visit from recently-retired Bradford Bulls captain and England player Leon Pryce.

Leon dropped into see Geoffrey at the Croft House care home and gave him a signed copy of his recently-published biography.

The pair had lunch together, which at Mr Simmonite’s request was steak and chips.

The nonagenarian later said: “It was a great and delightful surprise to meet a player of Leon’s calibre.”

Leon Pryce was born in Bradford in 1981 and is part of a family of rugby league players, with his father, uncle, and brother Karl Pryce all having played the sport at high level.

During his career Leon played for St Helens, Hull FC and the Catalan Dragons before joining the Bradford Bulls.

He was a Great Britain and England international representative backline player.
