A "FIELD full of fun" for the whole family is promised in Keighley later this summer.

The event on September 2 is being organised by community development worker, Pip Gibson, as part of the Keighley Town Council "KeighleyCAN" initiative.

It will take place from noon till 4pm on the "Tip Top" field off North Dean Road, near the junction with Guardhouse Road.

Ms Gibson explained: "The activities will be delivered by Her Majesty's Armed Forces in partnership with Keighley's very own Cabbage Club and a range of agencies and service providers currently operating in the area.

"This was to have been a modest affair, but thanks to Keighley town councillor John Kirby's efforts to secure the support of local business, South Street Metals, we're now able to make this an event to remember with a much broader range of activities."

These will include information and recruitment stands and a range of army-style activities especially focused on young people, manned by personnel from 4th Battalion of the Parachute Regiment, and the 4th Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment.

There will be a Cabbage Club Emporium including alfresco bistro catering and locally grown produce, an Incommunities Cavebus, and a Bradford Libraries story tent.

Bradford Youth Service will be present with tents, outdoor cooking, festival safety and will be promoting the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme.

Also taking part will be Keighley Town Council, members of the police antisocial bike team, a variety of stall holders fundraising for good causes, Keighley Armed Forces Association and gardener Steve Thorpe with children's horticultural projects.

The occasion will also include facepainting, tombola and a raffle.
