A WILSDEN postwoman has achieved her goal of completing 26 marathons in 26 days in a bid to raise £60,000 to fund treatment for her severely ill friend.
Kelly Williams, 40, wants to fund stem cell treatment for her friend Sol, who lives in Argentina but was bitten by a tick during a holiday to the UK in 2012 and now suffers from chronic Lyme Disease.
She has used her gruelling task to start a wider campaign called Spread a Little Sunshine, designed to encourage people to use acts of kindness to “inspire change and make a real difference” to people’s lives.
Speaking after finishing her final marathon in Saltaire on Sunday, Ms Williams said: “The support I’ve had has been amazing, and this has been my act of kindness to start the campaign. We hope Spread a Little Sunshine will continue to grow and grow, a bit like the ice bucket challenge did.
“We have raised around £12,000 so far, but money is coming in for everywhere and we’ll keep going until we get that £60,000 for Sol.”
