POPULAR Keighley baker Mike Armstrong will step back in time to demonstrate breadmaking at East Riddlesden Hall.

Mike, who writes a regular baking column in the Keighley News, will help the National Trust property celebrate Lammas traditions on Yorkshire Day.

He will give talks about Lammas, or ‘loaf mass’, on August 1 between between 11am and 4pm.

A bread-making demonstration will be at 1pm in the historic kitchen, followed by the opportunity for visitors to ask questions and find out more about Lammas.

The 400-year-old Great Hall will be home to a display of bread, traditionally laid out to celebrate the annual wheat harvest, and tiny bread mice will scatter the floor waiting to be discovered.

The display will remain until August 13.

Jacqueline Waters, house steward at East Riddlesden Hall, said: “Last year the event was very popular, and we’re really looking forward to having Mike join us this year to share his knowledge of Lammas and his bread-making skills with our visitors.

“We’re very grateful to Mike for his help with this, and to Sainsbury’s Keighley for their ongoing support of this special event.”

East Riddlesden Hall opens Saturdays to Wednesdays. Admission is free for under-fives.
