THE chairman of the friends group of Haworth Central Park said she and her colleagues are delighted that this space has again received the Green Flag Award.

As reported in last week's Keighley News, Haworth's park is one of just five public green spaces in Bradford district to gain this prestigious accolade.

It has now retained the Green Flag for more than a decade.

Friends chairman Gill Hill said: "We're tickled pink, really pleased.

"We've had a lot of help this year and the friends are marching forward with our plans for the park, which clearly shows."

The Green Flag Award scheme is run by the environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy on behalf of the Department for Communities and Local Government.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Environment, Sports and Culture, said: “I'd like to offer congratulations to the hard-working staff who look after our parks throughout the year, creating a clean, safe and beautiful environment for families and friends to enjoy.

“We're also lucky to have help from the countless volunteer groups of ‘friends’ who help maintain the parks.

“Green Flag status recognition is a culmination of all the hard work that goes in."
