RESIDENTS of a Cross Hills nursing home were treated to their own personal shopping experience when staff from a high street store called in.

Members of the Bonmarché team at Keighley’s Airedale Shopping Centre brought various clothing lines collections for Beanlands residents to browse through.

As part of a scheme to assist those less able to get out and about, store staff regularly visit care homes in the area, providing this service.

Leanne Hargreaves, manager of Bonmarché, said: "Our visits are designed to offer the nursing home community a more personal shopping experience with friends in a safe environment.”

This is the store’s first visit to Czajka Care Group’s Beanlands Nursing Home. Staff are planning to return later this year so residents will be able to do some early Christmas shopping for themselves as well as buy presents for loved ones.

Matthew Bygrave, acting activities organiser at Beanlands, said: “Our residents had a wonderful time going through the clothes on offer and the store staff were incredible with everyone.

"They took time to talk through what items suited them, and there was no pressure for anyone to buy anything."

Steve Seymour, Airedale Shopping Centre manager, said: “This is a wonderful community initiative and we fully support it.

"These visits provide people who might struggle to leave their residence the chance to enjoy a bit of retail therapy, with the added benefit of staying in the comfort of their home.”
