BBC Look North’s reporter Cathy Killick will be the guest judge on the opening day of the annual Scarecrow Festival in Kettlewell.
And she will really have her work cut out in the straw poll on August 12 with so many colourful creations to choose from in every corner of the village, from humourous entries and children’s favourites to topical characters and major masterpieces with moving parts.
This year, the fun-themed trail for children is based on ‘historical characters’, from cavemen and Cleopatra to a medieval knight and World War soldiers, while the theme for the adult trail is ‘rock and pop icons’.
Clue sheets for both trails around the village cost just £1 with all proceeds going to Kettlewell Primary School, the village hall and St Mary’s Church. Homemade cakes, sandwiches, soups and other refreshments will be served throughout the day, every day from August 12
to 20, in Kettlewell Village Hall, with all the profit making up a large part of the fundraising effort.
There is also plenty of parking for just £3 for the whole day.
