CULLINGWORTH children left their primary school with pride in their hearts.

That’s because the year five and six leavers had taken to the stage for a triumphant version of Disney musical The Lion King Jr.

They took their audience to Pride Rock on the African savannah for a theatrical re-creation of the classic Disney animated movie about a cub’s adventures on the way to becoming leader of the pack.

The oldest pupils of Cullingworth Village Primary School sang such well-known songs as The Circle of Life, Hakuna Matata, I Just Can’t Wait to Be King and Can You Feel the Love Tonight.

One teacher said: “It was a fantastic end to their time at primary school - we have some very talented children.”

The Lion King, one of Disney’s most successful movies, was transformed into a hit Broadway and West End musical several years ago.

The company has now created a junior version Disney's The Lion King which can be performed by schoolchildren.

The stage production can be accompanied by specially-created classroom work introducing pupils to a wide range of theatrical skills.

The Lion King portrays how lion cub Simba, forced to run away following the death of his father, eventually returns to take control of his pride and rule over the animals of the savannah.
