KEIGHLEY veteran David Mynott, who lost his teenage son Callum to cancer in 2015, has been honoured by Keighley Armed Forces Association.

The association has presented much-sought-after VIP Keighley Cougars tickets to rugby fan Mr Mynott.

He and his family will spend a match day in the Executive Box and enjoy a three-course meal as well as mixing with Cougars players.

Association chairman Luke Davison and secretary Jacqui McGinnis recently visited Mr Mynott to hand over a voucher for the experience.

The voucher had originally been given to the association by the Cougars for a raffle but the prize was not claimed.

Mrs McGinnis said Mr Mynott had served for 12 years in the Duke of Wellington’s Regiment and his son Daniel was currently a soldier serving in the 1st Battalion of the Yorkshire Regiment.

She said: “David's youngest son Callum was also about to join the army and was a keen Cougars fan when he lost his fight to cancer in October 2015 at the young age of 17.

“David soldiered on through this a tragic time, ensuring he was always there for his family. He is an inspiration to us all, and our country owes a great deal to people like him.”

Keighley Armed Forces Association organises the annual Armed Forces Day event in Keighley featuring a host of military-themed activities for all ages.

Mrs McGinnis was keen to stress the association existed for all serving and ex-serving comrades from the Keighley area.

She said: “We are a team of mixed talents, offering our services to help in many different ways, not just a group who organise an event once a year.

“If you feel you have something to offer to enhance our group why not come along to one our meetings and find out who we are and what we are planning for the future.”

The association is a non-profit community organisation made up of local people, many of whom have links with the Armed Forces or Cadet organisations.

Its activities include raising awareness and funds in the local community in support of the armed forces and their families.

Formed in July 2014, the association meets once a month at the Keighley Engineers Social Club, Russell Street.
