YORKSHIRE Air Ambulance has been given a financial boost worth £2,620 thanks to the efforts of dozens of staff from a Keighley business.

Last month (July) 38 employees from clamp manufacturing firm Teconnex took on the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, scaling the county's highest mountains in a day.

A spokesman for the company said: "The day started off at 5.45am at Teconnex, with some breakfast followed by a coach ride up to Horton in Ribblesdale.

"After a quick team photo, we then set off to walk up Pen-y-ghent with an elevation of 694 metres.

"As we got towards the top of the first peak the weather changed from being a nice sunny day to thick fog.

"At the bottom of each peak we had a volunteer support car with much needed water and snacks.

"The sun then returned for the second peak of Whernside – 736 metres.

"It was great to see the support that all the employees were giving each other to keep them on track and on time.

"The third and final peak was the 723-metre high Ingleborough. This proved to be challenging, as by this time we'd already covered 20 miles and the incline was steep.

"Also, the weather changed from sunshine to rain with exceptionally strong winds at the top. The event finished off with a well-deserved drink in the pub, with our teams finishing in times of between nine and 11 and a half hours."

She added that the business would like to thank everyone that took part in the trek, helped organise the event and donated money.
